ARt
When I studied at art school, someone painted an “F” in front of Art on the campus sign every semester. The school would repaint it each time, but the touch ups never quite matched. A faint patch of mismatched color permanently lingered before the “A.” People enjoy “Fart School.”
This small prank stayed with me. What does art really mean, literally, philosophically, and visually? People say art is everywhere, but if art is everything, it can also be nothing. It may simply be the act of seeing.
AR t is a poetic augmented reality installation featuring a 3D printed hand shaped video switcher and a self painted ARt canvas. By waving a hand above the device, viewers trigger randomized YouTube search results generated from my freewriting on the word ART.
Each wave pulls a random video and adds its title to the screen, gradually transforming the screen into a visually incomprehensible poem until it resets as “restART.” This surface-level consumption of content feel purposeless, much like "art" itself or the piece AR t itself. It's nothing, it's just seeing.
